Workers' compensation Independent Medical Evaluation (IME).

An Independent Medical Evaluation (IME) can be scheduled by either the workers' compensation carrier or the injured worker in a Georgia workers' compensation claim. If the claim is accepted as compensable, an injured worker has the right to schedule one IME with a doctor of his or her choosing, and workers' comp has to pay for that visit. Generally, the cost is about $1,200. The workers' compensation carrier can also schedule an IME. Essentially, an IME is a second opinion. If you would like to speak with a workers' compensation attorney about an IME, contact Atlanta work injury lawyer Brian H. Sumrall at (404)924-4595 or visit
