Functional Capacities Evaluation (FCE) and a workers' compensation claim.

A Functional Capacities Evaluation (FCE) is a test designed to measure an injured worker's physical capabilities. An FCE examiner will guide the injured worker through a series of physical tasks over the course of the test and will then provide an opinion on the worker's work restrictions and Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) rating. The FCE examiner also considers the job that the patient was assigned to prior to being injured, and will make an assessment as to whether the injured work is capable of performing that job. Generally, an FCE takes place after the treating physician has provided all available treatment to the injured worker.
